The right to play sports

The Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted in 1989 and ratified by the Afghan Government in 1994. One of the vital rights protected by the Convention is the right to life, education and health. The cricket camp aims to celebrate the importance of the right to participate. Sports brings people together by promoting tolerance and respect. It helps children develop themselves in harmony and with their peers - regardless of age, nationality or political considerations.

Farid, 15, and Isai, 10, a brother of Samil, love cricket, but their plans for the future look different. They both go to school. Farid wants to become an engineer, and Isai is a doctor.

"Over the past two days, I have proved to myself that I can be strong, and that I can get what I want if I cooperate with others," says Farid.

With support from UNICEF, the Afghan Youth Cricket Support Organization plans to organize similar training courses to give young people in other regions, especially in the war-torn regions of south and south-eastern Afghanistan, an opportunity to prove themselves - children.
